Al also had the opportunity to fly with Chuck Yeager in a P-51.

On Feb. 14, 1959, he married Doris Hopper in New Jersey, where they were to live for the next 30 years.

Al was the head of aircraft mechanics for TWA at Kennedy Airport in New York. He and Doris also got their private pilot licenses together.

He loved boating on his beloved Hudson River and had a passion for history, especially for places he had been. He was also an avid reader of books pertaining to history.

When Al retired, he and his wife Doris moved to Lake Placid, and Al built his Lincoln Log dream home.

He was very proud of his gardens that he created there and which he loved to spend time in.

He also got to continue his love of flying by building his own experimental aircraft.

In recent years, Al sacrificed everything to become the full-time caregiver for Doris, who had Alzheimer's. Even as Doris became bedridden and it became increasingly difficult to care for her, he never complained and always did it with a joyful heart.

Al is now rejoicing in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and we praise God for the years that we had him here.

Al is survived by his daughter Kathy Johnsen and her husband Tim of Lake Clear, and his sister June Gilmour and her husband John of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was predeceased by his sister Helen and his brother George.

Funeral service for Albert and Doris Rupp will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22

at Trinity Chapel on Old Military Road, Lake Placid. Burial will follow at the North Elba Cemetery,

Lake Placid. Pastor Tim Johnsen will officiate.
