UPPER JAY - "The Phoenix Syndrome" will be read at 7:30 p.m. today at the Recovery Lounge. The free reading is dedicated to the victims of Tropical Storm Irene and will include a discussion with the audience about the prospect for future storms.
The new drama by award-winning playwright Allen FitzGerald is about a family that is torn apart when the wealthy father wants to disinherit them and create a foundation to help prevent climate change from turning into global chaos.
The Recovery Lounge, where brothers Byron and Scott Renderer run both an upholstery business and a performance center, had its basement seriously damaged by flooding as Irene caused the adjacent East Branch of the AuSable River to rise to a record level on Aug. 28.
