More ways to help Irene flood victims

Musicians help raise funds for storm victims

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Center for the Arts will sponsor a concert with numerous local bands Tuesday night to help those in need following the extensive regional damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene.

The concert will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. at the LPCA, located at 17 Algonquin Drive near Saranac Avenue. The suggested minimum donation is $20 at the door. All funds raised will be directly donated and equitably distributed between the Town of Jay Irene Relief Fund and the Keene Flood Recovery Fund.

Many of the bands performing live in the towns of Keene, Jay and North Elba and were directly impacted by the Aug. 28 storm. The lineup includes a rare performance by the band Jim, of Lake Placid, as well as Monsterbuck from Upper Jay; Stan Oliva of Keene and Larry Stone of Wilmington; Heidi Little; the Back Porch Society (members of Roadside Mystic) from Keene Valley; Lostdog; the trio of Mike Portal, Lowell Bailey and John Doan (Bailey and Doan live in Lake Placid); and more acts to be announced.

Whiteface Lodge to hold flood food benefit next week

LAKE PLACID - The Whiteface Lodge will host a benefit next week to help the people in neighboring towns who suffered severe flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.

The open food and drink tasting will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lodge's Kanu restaurant. There is a suggested $10 donation.

There will be live cooking stations with signature dishes from Kanu and neighboring restaurants; local and regional wine, beer and liquor tastings; a silent auction; live music; and a raffle for a two-night stay at the Lodge, according to a flyer advertising the benefit.

Restaurants, hotels and other businesses who want to provide a live tasting station should contact Sean Foley at 518-523-0533. To donate items for the silent auction, contact Emily Foti or Phil Anderson at 518-523-0534.

All funds raised will be donated to relief efforts in Keene, Jay and AuSable Forks.


Green Goddess will give to Keene relief Sunday

LAKE PLACID - Green Goddess Natural Foods on Newman Road will donate 10 percent of its proceeds Sunday to the Adirondack Community Trust for flood relief in Keene.
