FRANKLIN FALLS - A seasonal camp on Rock Street was destroyed by a fire early Saturday morning.

A neighbor went outside to have a cigarette, saw a glow in the sky and originally thought it was a wildland fire, said Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department 1st Lt. Danielle Akey. He then realized it was a camp on fire and reported it at 2:24 a.m.

The fire was already fully involved by the time firefighters arrived and ended up being completely destroyed. Akey said that only the chimneys are still standing.

According to the town of Franklin's tax roll, the property at 2262 Rock St. is owned by Patrick H. and Heather Tronnier of Naples, Fla. Akey said they were not at home at the time, having left the night before to go home.

The Franklin County Cause and Origin Team is still investigating the cause of the fire.

The Bloomingdale fire department responded with three trucks and 12 members, and volunteers were back in service by 7:26 a.m. The Saranac Lake, Paul Smiths-Gabriels and AuSable Forks volunteer fire departments and Saranac Station No. 2 also responded. The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department stood by at Saranac Lake's station with a pumper and eight members.
