There is reason to be optimistic that the parking lot next to Sears will soon be open to the public when the owner, town and village sign all the agreements.
All the pieces fell into place with leasing the village offices to the biotech businesses and then relocating the village offices into the Harrietstown Town Hall. With the town hall having more occupants that would require more parking, an agreement was made that Harrietstown could lease the Sears parking lot from the new owner and the village could maintain it.
It is especially good news for those who have difficulty
parallel parking downtown, but now they will soon be able to just swoop in and park. Businesses that were hurt by the closed parking lot will also reap the benefits of it reverting back to public parking, welcoming people to stop and patronize local businesses.
How often do we see good things like this happen in Saranac Lake? Our mayor and village board have reason to toot their own horn with not only working together to open the lot, but attract the two biotech businesses to town. There is also reason for pride in accomplishments by
local leaders in our community such as the new VA clinic opening and the groundbreaking for the Adirondack Carousel on Depot Street. Not to mention the branding of Saranac Lake as an arts community with the recent Adirondack Arts and Heritage Festival and the events surrounded by the beautification of town with Daffest.
These are all positive signs of what can be accomplished when everyone works together. Let's continue this spirit going forward to reach even more goals for the Saranac Lake area.
