LAKE PLACID - State Route 86 through the Wilmington Notch and state Route 73 near the ski jumps are both back open to two-way traffic.

Each road was restricted to one lane for much of Thursday. For a while, only one car was allowed to cross the bridge by the ski jumps at a time due to trees hitting the bridge, according to the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department.

River Road in the town of North Elba was reopened this morning, according to the fire department.

Lake Placid firefighters evacuated two homes on River Road Thursday with the help of state Forest Ranger Dan Fox. The people who live in those homes are staying with relatives and friends in the area, fire officials said.

Firefighters also reported that they removed a stuck vehicle near the old skeet field beside River Road - the driver was able to get out of the vehicle on her own - removed a propane tank from a stream near Saranac Avenue, used sandbags to control water at one location and pumped out several flooded basements.
