MORIAH - Gov. Andrew Cuomo plans to visit this flood-ravaged town on Lake Champlain today.

Cuomo plans to visit storm-damaged areas and hold a media briefing with emergency response officials at Moriah Central School in Port Henry at noon today, according to Cuomo's public schedule.

Moriah was the local town hit hardest by the flooding triggered by severe thunderstorms Tuesday evening and aggravated by snowmelt and continued rain this week.

Essex County officials want Cuomo to declare a disaster area so the county will be eligible for state and federal funding to rebuild. The storm caused more than $1.5 million in damage to county-owned infrastructure alone, according to preliminary estimates.
