LAKE PLACID - State Route 86 between Lake Placid and Wilmington in the Wilmington Notch area was open around 6 p.m., although it was restricted to one lane of traffic.

Traffic on state Route 73 near the ski jumps in the town of North Elba was back to two-way traffic Thursday evening after being restricted to just one lane for much of the day. For a while only one car was allowed to cross it at a time due to trees hitting the bridge, according to the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department.

River Road in the town of North Elba is still closed, and Lake Placid firefighters evacuated two homes there with the help of Forest Ranger Dan Fox. the people who live in those homes are staying with relatives and friends in the area, fire officials said.
