The Upstate New York Tea Party will host a debate between Republican congressional candidates Doug Hoffman and Matt Doheny in Plattsburgh on Sept. 1.
UNYTEA has endorsed Hoffman in the upcoming Sept. 14 Republican primary. The Democratic incumbent in New York's 23rd Congressional District is Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, who is running for re-election. Doheny and Hoffman agreed to take part in the UNYTEA debate Thursday, according to a press release from UNYTEA Chairman Mark Barie.
The plan is to have a panel of three media representatives formulate and ask the questions; their names will be released later this week. Each candidate will be asked an equal number of questions and given two minutes to respond, with the respondent's opponent then given a minute to reply.
Barie will moderate the debate, which will likely start at 7 p.m. The location has not yet been confirmed.
The Enterprise and other local media are organizing a separate debate between Hoffman and Doheny, which will likely be in Saranac Lake in early September.
