Essex County vaccinates more than 5,000, most for swine flu
By NATHAN BROWN, Enterprise Staff WriterELIZABETHTOWN - More than 5,000 people have received flu vaccinations from Essex County this season, a huge jump from last year, and the large majority were for swine flu.
The county has vaccinated 5,302 people at several dozen clinics, Kathy Daggett, director of preventative services for the county Public Health office, told the Human Services Committee of the county Board of Supervisors Monday morning. Seasonal flu vaccines account for 1,160 of them, with the rest for swine flu. By contrast, only about 1,400 people received these vaccines last season.
The county has finished vaccination clinics at 26 schools, five adult homes, seven community clinics and 12 nutritional and senior centers, Daggett said.
