Olympic bouquets available in Saranac Lake

By NATHAN BROWN, Enterprise Staff Writer
POSTED: February 25, 2010

SARANAC LAKE - You don't have to be a winning athelte to get an Olympic bouquet anymore. You don't have to go to Vancouver. You don't even have to go to the Olympic Village.

This year's Olympic bouquet is all green, and you'll be able to get replicas of them at the Saranac Lake Florist on Academy Street.

The bouquet is made from, among other plants, green carnations, green hypericum berries, tree ferns and aspidistra leaves, store owner Janice Miller said Wednesday.

Miller said this is her first time making such a bouquet. She got the idea while watching the Olympics last week, and said she has gotten a positive response so far.

Miller had sold one already as of Wednesday afternoon, and will be selling more. There are three sizes, the smallest costs $25, the next $35 and the largest $45.

Competition to produce the 1,800 Olympic bouquets was fierce, with the winners, Just Beginnings Flowers, of Surrey, British Columbia, beating out 58 other florists, according to the Vancouver Sun. The Olympic Committee chose the all-green design after rejecting 23 outtakes.
