Tri-Lakes Poker Run to be held Feb. 6

January 22, 2010
BY DEBORAH J. DONALDSON

The Adirondack Presbyterian church will hold its worship service at 10:45 a.m. at the Lake Clear church for the month of January. Coffee hour to follow. Anyone is welcome to attend and bring a friend.

St. John in the Wilderness church will hold its Mass at 8 a.m. Sunday and at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. Gabriels Assumption church will have a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. St. Pauls in Bloomingdale will hold their Anticipated Mass at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone is welcome to attend any of these Masses and bring a friend.

There will be a card party held at St. John in the Wilderness church hall on the third Sunday of February at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The bookmobile will be at the Lake Clear post office parking lot 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. I am hoping this is the right date.

One of Lake Clear's favorite people has moved to Virginia. George Carley is at the following address: 1000 Litton Lane, Blacksburg, VA 24060. If any of his friends would like to send George a card, please do. I know he would really enjoy hearing from his friends in Lake Clear and the surrounding area.

Also remember that former Lake Clear resident Marguerite Reyome is still at the Neighborhood House in Keene Valley. She would enjoy hearing from her friends or maybe a phone call or a visit to her. It's hard being away from your previous home, friends and family.

The Tri-Lakes Snowmobilers, Inc will meet at the Shamrock at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. All members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Brian Durkee at 891-3969.

The Tri-Lakes Poker Run to benefit North Country Life Flight will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. Cards must be drawn at Charlie's Inn at the Junction in Lake Clear by 5:30 p.m. Participants must have a minimum of five cards and maximum of seven cards.

First prize is $250; second prize is $150 with third place being $100. There will be door prize drawings for any of the participants.

A $10 donation paid at Charlie's Inn will go toward Life Flight.

The following are the locations for you to receive your cards: Shamrock, Brighton Mini-Mart, Gus's Adirondack Diner, Saranac Lake Moose Club, Romano's, Captain Cooks, Lake Clear General Store, Airport Cafe, Bloomin' Market, Gaga's, Trailside, 5-Hole, Trails End, Woodsmens Tavern at the Grand Union Hotel, Lumberjack, Main Street Restaurant, Red Tavern, Deer Valley, Balliles Riverside, Barney's Wagon Wheel, Gallagher's, Lisa G's, Belly's, Sportsman Club, finishing at Charlie's Inn for the drawing.

To add to the excitment, you don't need to have a snowmobile. You can drive around to several locations, pick up your cards, making sure you finish at Charlie's Inn for the drawing at 5:30 p.m. Have supper there and stay for the dancing with a DJ starting at 7 p.m. Any questions, call 891-9858 for more information. Enjoy folks, just a little winter fun in the Adirondacks.

Around town

Sally Matern, whose deceased husband John was the pastor of the Lutheran church in Saranac Lake, is now at Mercy-Uihlein. Sally is in Unit 2. She would enjoy hearing from her friends or having company if anyone is in Lake Placid.

The Class of 1956 will meet for lunch at Nonna Fina at noon Friday, Jan. 22. Hopefully, the weather will hold so everyone can get there. For more information, call Barbara Darrah at 891-1043 or Harold Jaquis at 891-0987.

St. Pauls/Assumption Town of Brighton Food Pantry will be open for people in need of food and gently used clothing from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21. It is located in the Brighton Town garage. If you have questions, please call Barbara Marshall at 327-3297.

The following are some cool dates for the 2010 calendar: Jan. 9, Feb. 8, March 7, April 6, May 5, June 4, July 3, Aug. 2, Sept. 1 are all equation dates. The month number plus the day number equals the last two digits of the year.

Feb. 5 and May 2 are also equation dates. The month number times the date number equals the last two digits of the year.

Aug. 9 is a sequential date, (8/9/10).

Dec. 11 is a reverse sequential date, (12/11/10).

October 10 will be a perfect ten! (10/10/10).

The most important fact is that there is only one Friday the 13th this year!

Enjoy this wonderful piece of information.
