Essex County: Hommes wins landslide re-election; DA race too close to call (update)

ELIZABETHTOWN - Henry Hommes won re-election as Essex County sheriff by a wide margin, with 54 percent of the total and more votes than his two opponents combined in unofficial results.

Ike Tyler of Westport and Robert Kirby of Wilmington, both running as independents, challenged the Republican sheriff, who took 5,280 votes in unofficial results. Tyler got 3,086 votes, Kirby 1,319.

Meanwhile, Kristy Sprague leads incumbent Essex County District Attorney Julie Garcia by 75 votes, 6,053-5,978, with roughly 1,150 absentee ballots still uncounted. Sprague ran as a Republican, Garcia as a Democrat.
