BREAKING NEWS: Boil-water order for Tupper Lake due to E. coli (update)

No E. coli cases so far at hospital, spokesman says

By NATHAN BROWN, Enterprise Staff Writer
POSTED: September 17, 2009

TUPPER LAKE - All users of Tupper Lake's village water have been ordered to boil it for one minute before ingesting it, due to E. coli bacteria contamination.

All drinking, ice-making, dish-washing, teeth-brushing and food preparation should be done either with bottled water or water that has been boiled and allowed to cool for a minute until further notice, according to the state Department of Health.

According to the state Department of Health, E. coli bacteria has been found in the water. While not harmful in itself, the bacteria's presence is associated with that of human and animal wastes, and it can lead to illness.

There have been no E. coli cases at Adirondack Medical Center within the past few days, hospital spokesman Joe Riccio said Thursday afternoon.

The presence of this bacteria is generally the result of a problem with water treatment or the pipes that distribute the water.

The order is until further notice and will be lifted when two consecutive daily samples show no bacteriological contamination.

John, do you really the whole hour the political parties used to nominate candidates kept everyone in TL so busy they forgot about the water? Two stories in ADE about TL in one week, there must a connection. Get real.

where are you from John? What did Tupper do to you? I can't believe the number of comments on this. Boil water orders happen all the time; well not so much in TL but ask SL.

Yeah Fee was nominated for Town Supervisor in Tupper Lake... and as far as that's concerned, he'd have to quit his police chief job to even run for supervisor -- and the supervisor makes $15,000 whereas I'm sure Fee is making $50,000 plus as chief... I'd have to think Fee would be making a pretty bad decision to swap those salaries...

Ship, as if only ironman competitors pee in the lake? Tourists and residents never do, right? Get a grip.

John for your info Chief Fee was not nominated for the village Mayor. Get your facts right before you cut down Tupper Lake.
