Community appreciation celebration June 19

The Adirondack Presbyterian Church will hold its worship service in Lake Clear at 10:45 a.m. with coffee hour to follow.

A ham dinner will be held at the Lake Clear Presbyterian church hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 13. The menu is ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, cole slaw, rolls, dessert and beverage. Chet Thurber will once again donate his music for the evening. Cost: $10 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 10 years old and kids under 5 free. Take-out will be available. St. John in the Wilderness will hold Mass at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Sunday. Gabriels Assumption will hold Mass at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. St. Paul's in Bloomingdale has an Anticipated Mass at 4 p.m. Saturday. All are welcome to attend any of the above.

There will be a card party held at St. John in the Wilderness church hall at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 21. Prizes, lottery tree, etc. Come and enjoy an afternoon of card playing with your neighbors.

The bookmobile will be at the Lake Clear Post Office parking lot from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 23. Stop by and pick up some good reading material.

The Lake Clear school will be holding a celebration for all community members from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 19, rain or shine with the appreciation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. The school wishes to celebrate 54 years of memories for Lake Clear families. There will be food, music, games, a nature trail and family fun. Please bring a potluck item to share, lawn games or acoustic instruments for a community jam session. All are invited to contribute copies of Lake Clear photos and memories, which will be added to the "memory book." See you all there.

Hohmeyer's Lodge on Lake Clear hold a "Holistic Living: Grounding and Personal Awareness" program June 12-14. On June 14 the Adirondack cooking school will have a "Smoking Foods for Fun & Flavor" program. June 20-21 will be the Adirondack Rustic furniture demo and dinner with specialty beer tasting. The little piggies are back again on Forest Home Road. Francis Dumont and Clarence Brockway Jr. went to near Ogdensburg to pick them up on May 23. Francis has two this year, named Henry and Whitey; Clarence has one; Jim has two. The livestock population on the Forest Home Road is growing.

Congratulations to Tim and Amy Durkee of Saranac Lake with the birth of their son Tyler Jon Durkee born May 26, 2009. Very proud grandparents are Donald and Dorothy Durkee and Richard Pat Meagher, both of Lake Clear. Grandma Pat is even prouder, as Tyler was born on her birthday.

Around town

Every Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m., in the parking lot next to Pizza Hut in Saranac Lake, there will be a classic, custom, vintage, antique car show. Feel free to stop by and chat with the owners of these special cars. For more information, call Ben Kline at 572-6132.

There will be a card party with prizes and refreshments every Thursday at the Bloomingdale Town Hall starting at 7 p.m. For more information, call Augie Simpson at 891-4398.

The following is a very useless piece of information, but I just know you needed to know this. At 5 minutes and 6 seconds after 4 a.m. on July 8 of this year, the time and date will be: 04:05:06 07-08-09. This will not happen

again until the year 3009. WOW! I bet we all will be around to see it happen again.

Senior happenings

Several volunteers will be sitting at various locations around Saranac Lake collecting funds on Friday, June 12 for Meals on Wheels. The Adult Center sponsors the meals that are taken to homebound people. If you happen to miss donating that day, feel free to stop at the Adult Center to leave your donation. Thank you in advance for all your support.

The Adult Center bus will go to Malone for shopping Saturday, June 13. The bus leaves between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Please call 891-2980 to make your reservation.

The evening meal sponsored by the Adult Center Board of Directors will be

held Wednesday, June 17 at 5 p.m. Bingo is at 2 p.m.; wine and cheese are at 4 p.m. Dinner will include salad bar, rolls, meatloaf, baked potato and strawberry shortcake. Cost is $5 per person. Call 891-2980 to make reservations by June 12 as a head count is needed.

On Friday, June 19, the Adult Center bus will go to Hojo's for dinner. The bus leaves at 5:30 p.m. Please call 891-2980 to make reservations.

The Franklin County 2009 Senior Spelling Bee will be held at the Adult Center at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 8. You must register by July 7 for this event, open to all Franklin County residents 60 years and over. The top two winners will go to the championship round at the Senior Picnic in Burke July 22. Sound interesting? Call 891-2980 for more information and to sign up for some spelling fun.
