Study hard, students of all ages

September 2, 2008
By Dora Mose,

Welcome again to the Brighton Buzz! It seems only yesterday school was letting out for the summer, and now we are at the first day of returning to school! I hope all the children had a wonderful summer break and kept up with their reading and writing skills!

Public transit news

Franklin County Public transit is running every day now. Call 483-9000 for details on routes, times and cost.

Food Pantry

Barbara and her gang are tirelessly at it every other week providing food for the body and soul! They continue to ask to help keep the trash out of the bottle deposit boxes, and they give their heartfelt appreciation for the donated returnable bottles. If anyone has a food need, please call Barbara at 327-3297.

I have to make an apology to Cathy and Mark Bulles; I misread Cathy's note to me regarding dates, etc. I wrote "Ann Birthday" when in fact, this was Cathy's abbreviation for "anniversary"! So, a special anniversary wish goes out to Cathy and Mark on their wedding anniversary for the 12th of August! Eighteen years together! Keep up the good work, Cathy and Mark!

Well wishes to a new friend

One of our summer friends has gone back to her home in Hamden, Conn. Anyone who patrons Gus' Adirondack Diner met Elizabeth Richards, who summers in Rainbow Lake. We wish you well, Elizabeth, and look forward to seeing you next summer!

Welcome back, PSC students!

With friends leaving for the winter, I'd also like to welcome our Paul Smith's College students back for the fall semester! I hope you had a nice summer and are ready to study hard! Please remember to keep your college experience a safe one! And don't drink; if you must drink, please be responsible doing so. If you aren't old enough, please leave it alone till you are. Remember, drinking is not all it's cracked up to be, and it could land you in some big trouble, so please be safe and stay smart!

Kid's Korner

As I said in the welcome, I hope all you children are and have kept up with your reading and writing skills this summer. Have you got your book reports ready for your first assignment of the year? I know everyone will do great again this year.

Reminder to parents, now that school is open, there will be kids on bikes and school buses and large groups of children on the streets now, so please be careful and use extra caution when driving now. Start your ride to work a little bit earlier, plan on more time to travel through towns and such.

Kids, you have a responsibility too to remain safe on the roads! Remember, your bike safety and follow the rules, they are made for your protection and safety! Wear your helmet when you ride your bike and always be aware of what is around you, look both ways all the time.
