Any home owner paying taxes more than 1% of property value is paying too much. Raise the bed tax, or put a 1 cent per gallon local tax on gasoline so everyone has a little of the burden. Do whatever you can to get property taxes down because if you don't, at some point, homeownership will become unaffordable, especially for seniors on fixed incomes.

As difficult a process this has been for the past several years for school boards, they continue to fall short in regard to their obligation to us, the tax payers. I will not accept the position that they have done the 'best they can'. NO, They Have NOT!!! All of the local boards need replacement. I know the budget vote, symbolic or not PC, is perhaps not the place to voice discontentment, but we have to do something! They fall far short of acceptable when it comes to negotiating contracts. This next year is one of those years and staff contributions absolutely NEED to increase significantly for both retirement and health care.
