Having an Irish Catholic background I must ask, what does being Protestant have to do with assimilating quicker? :)

There's also the Robert Louis Stevenson house, and that Scottish connection to Saranac Lake.

The Scottish and Ulster Scots influence on America is both huge and under-recognized. They came here earlier than the Irish, and, being Protestants, they assimilated quicker. More presidents have been part Scottish or Ulster-Scots than any other group except maybe English. Nice to see them get a little notice.
