And buying the two nursing homes in LP and TL was an absolute colossal MISTAKE! Now they are back-peddling and claiming false figures (in regard to the LP ER numbers) to help justify a corrective plan of action. They should have left the Nursing facilities for a private sector enterprise to run them and stick to managing Hospitals.

This 60 day delay is no more than a calming tactic. Their decision from a fiscally responsible stance has already been made. The emotion involved in this whole convoluted issue means nothing to the board. They will act in what administrators are requesting from them. From a business angle, the only resolve is closing the whole LP thing down.

They charged me 1000 for routine bloodwork. The have signs on the wall where nursing staff point to where someone wrote in "you do not have a right to pain meds"

If your uninsured/ self pay your xcrewd.

Third, It is my opinion that the Doctors at AMC that want the Lake Placid ER closed only want it closed for their own convenience. When they are the "on-call" Physician in their Department they are "on-call" for BOTH ER's. It is my belief that they are afraid that something will happen in Lake Placid and they could be held accountable if they do not respond. Personal note here, members of my family have gone to the ER in Lake Placid and requested to see an "on-call" Physician only to be told they must go to Saranac Lake to see them.

Buying the nursing homes was a good thing to do. But instead of merging the nursing homes or reducing the beds like they are talking about now, leadership at Adirondack Health have let the nursing home drain the hospital's resources to the tune of $11 million dollars since 2008. And the once stellar reputation for care at the nursing home has suffered greatly under the hospital's leadership. If they invested just a little of the Redfield money in the Lake Placid ER updating it with equipment (Cat Scan) and supported it with leadership who cared about its continued operation, we would not have to have this community discussion. The ER is of great value to the people it serves in Lake Placid and those communities to the east of it; it has saved lives and lives will be put in jeopardy with its closure.

Second, a hospitals "claim to fame" is that they are fully "Accredited" by the Joint Commission. Go to the Joint Commission's website and you'll see AMC is NOT fully accredited. They have only a few Departments Accredited. To my shock, according to the Joint Commission's website, the Labs are NOT accredited! This has to effect their reimbursement level, in my opinion. To a Insurance Company it'd be like bypassing a service station with certified mechanics to go to a shade tree mechanic.

OK, you asked for some rational points, remember that as you read this staff. First, a hospital conglomerate such as AMC runs with two sets of books. One for the non-profit hospital side and the other for the profit "healthcare" side. It is the non-profit hospital, nursing home, ER side that they like to cite when stating their income level. Being non-profit they strive to keep this side in the red or slightly in the black. The for profit side, clinics, Doctors offices, Outpatient Services etc they strive to make as profitable as possible.
