Tough dilemma for Adirondack Health

March 23, 2013

It’s a safe bet that none of the decision makers at Adirondack Health wants to lay off 18 more staff members after laying off 17 three months ago, and we think the same can be said for the decision......

in paragraph 2 you stated the co. that owns and operates all the hospitals in the area.....just how many hospitals do they own in the area......also i was under the impression that they do NOT OWN our hospital, but are paid to manage it.please let us know which is correct........it's difficult to follow what is going on, but misinformation is worse than no information.......if i am incorrect i'll take my lumps,as i expect you to take yours if you are.....i don't know how much of the rest of the editorial is accurate as i'm not knowledgeable there.

"If, for instance, it's spending outlandish amounts of money on things like administrative pay, this nonprofit corporation's board should correct that injustice, on behalf of the communities they serve." Best idea you've ever had! Since you, the paper, reach out to soooo many readers and can attract the appropriate polictical leaders (up here), request the State to venture their investigations into non-profits in specific regard to their administative spending. Further, we challenge EVERY SINGLE board member of such non-profit groups here in the Tri-Lakes to do the same!!!! Scary findings, I'm sure! But cost effective findings I am eaqually as SURE!

The median household income in the area is somewhere around 40k. If you go to the website "Guidestar" you can see some of the salaries paid to some of the upper level staff. I looked last year when the hospital was complaining about revenues. If I recall properly, a physician assistant was making around 250k. Chandler Ralph's salary was not listed. This is gossip but it may be true: that Ralph is contracted through intermediary and that she makes around 600k per year, if not more. That could be sheer rumor.. but it would be nice if one of the reporters could investigate and report on administration salaries and benefits.

Are you kidding me, when is the last time you tried to get in a Dr. office in Lake Placid, or Saranac Lake.In Saranac if you do get in you could wait 2 hrs to get to see a Dr. The people running this should take the cut in pay not the people who do the real work, but you will never see her take a cut.

There's many people in charge there that are paid well and don't put in the hours that the frontline people do. How about cutting out all those expensive trips the managers take. Lots of places for savings besides cutting out life saving services.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE~!!!! INVESTIGATE our local Non-for Profit health care providers!!! ARC, North Star, Franklin Co., Mountain Lake, Citizen Advocates, Essex Ind.. These agencies are AWESOME, yet yield a HUGE amount of SALARIES from ASDMINISTRATION that needs to be changed so our mission to "provide" can be accomplishhed!!!
