65th Wedding Anniversary
Dorothy and David Pecora
Former residents of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Dorothy Beavers Pecora and Dr. David V. Pecora celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this summer. The couple was married in two ceremonies. This first was on July 21, 1944 at St. Peter's Church, Westminster, England. Army nurses of the 30th Field hospital Virginia Meeks and Catherine Stout (O'Donnell) were among the witnesses to their marriage. The second was before a registrar on the next morning hours before Mrs. Pecora was shipped to the European Mainland to serve in General Patton's Third Army. At the time of their wedding, Mrs. Pecora and Dr. Pecora both served as Lieutenants in the U.S. Army. They requested permission to marry after an April engagement. “Marriage in the service required the approval of the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Forces (SHAEF), General Eisenhower commanding, which was contingent upon approval of the chaplains of the faiths involved” writes Dr. Pecora in his book “Between the Raindrops”.
