SLPD Officer James Law promoted to sergeant

SARANAC LAKE — Village police officer James Law was promoted to Sergeant Thursday afternoon, filling the spot left vacant by new Police Chief Bruce Nason. “It’s awesome coming to work every day,” Law said. “I really enjoy the variety there is. Every single day you don’t know what’s going to happen.” Law, 42, of Rainbow Lake, has been with the Saranac Lake Police Department for the past 11 years, serving as the juvenile and D.A.R.E. officer during that time; he would have been the school resource officer had the village allowed it. Law said he plans to stay on as the juvenile officer until one of the other officers is trained for the position. Law was one of three policemen who were eligible for the promotion, the other two being Peter Gladd and Geoffrey Carmichael, all of whom passed a sergeant’s exam administered by Franklin County Civil Service on June 16.
