Sign question

Wed, October 7, 2009 @ 6:20PM As long as I've lived here, there has been a part of state Route 3, as you're heading into Saranac Lake from Bloomingdale, where the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 mph near the Fish and Game Club. Was there always? I ask because, after the sign, there is a yellow cautionary speed sign telling you to go 45. As I always understood it, the purpose of those signs is to warn you to go slower than the speed limit in tricky section.

Emerald Ash Borer found in New York

Wed, June 17, 2009 @ 6:32PM Those purple triangles that are hanging in trees throughout the North Country and are being used to detect the presence of emerald ash borers will be more important than ever this summer. The DEC announced today that the beetle has been found in this state. They have been trying to prevent the spread of this pest because it is known to kill off species of ash trees. Below is a press release from the DEC. Emerald Ash Borer Found in New York State Surveys and Monitoring in Cattaraugus County Area to Help Delineate Spread of Invasive Beetle ALBANY — New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker and Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis today announced the discovery of an Emerald Ash Borer infestation (EAB) in Randolph, Cattaraugus County. The EAB is a small but destructive beetle that infests and kills North American ash tree species, including green, white, black and blue ash. This is the first time it has been detected in New Yor.

De Nile isn't just a river in Egypt

Thu, November 5, 2009 @ 10:00PM   For some reason, a lot of the post election pundits have been decrying the lackluster showing by democrats and the seeming inability of ‘rock star’ Obama to swing races for them. In today’s Daily News, Errol Louis writes about how ‘In 2009, its clear the President’s charisma cannot salvage the lackluster Dems’ In yesterday’s NY Post, right wing mouthpiece Charles Hurt wrote in a column titled ‘Messiah prez hardly looks like a savior just 1 year later ‘So this is the post partisan politics Obama promised. ..He is utterly powerless to getting other Democrats elected’ He goes on, as other articles have, showing how areas in Virginia and New jersey that went for Obama in the presidential race went for the Republicans this time. I might have missed the memo. Was Obama running again? Anyone as Governor of New Jersey would have been thrown out. Corzine didn’t stand a chance. NJ taxes are through the roof.
