ADE to Create Adk Biz Today

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise this week launches AdkBizToday, a forum on business tips, news, issues, trends and opinions that affect the Adirondack economy. In making the announcement, ADE publisher Cathy Moore, pointed to a group of businesses that have been meeting over the last 6 months to discuss how to attract visitors to the area as well as how to get the word out to local residents related to business resources. The group is a diverse set of businesses ranging from retail and lodging to professional.

Marketing Your Community for Business has developed several initiatives related to attracting visitors to the area. These have included several co-op marketing campaigns and bringing together the area’s various art disciplines including fine, performing and visual artists including new partners such as health, wellness, outdoor adventure and culinary arts. The effort is to create an Adirondack Arts destination brand and through a totally volunteer effort a web site has been created and with the help of the Franklin and Essex County Tourism, a fall on-line campaign was conducted. The group is now meeting to create a 2011 event and marketing calendar with existing organizations. “With I Love NY and county tourism dollars scarce, it will be up to local communities and businesses to band together to take more of a lead in promoting the area” Moore continued. We are excited about the potential to enhance the area’s brand as an “A”rts destination that involves the wide spectrum of indoor and outdoor arts disciplines and are encouraged by the growing number of business who are getting involved’ she concluded.

The other major interest of businesses has been to reach out to local residents related to business resources, goods and services available to them. With this in mind, the ADE is creating a “Business Resource Directory” to start November 20th that will be available on-line and in print as part of AdkBizToday. “The resource directory will begin with those businesses involved with Marketing Your Community for Business and expand to include all interested businesses” Moore explained. The Business Resource Directory will be separated into types of businesses with the purpose being that readers can easily search for the types of services available.

The 3rd part of AdkBizToday will be on-line ADE blog which will be highlighted each Saturday in a new business section of the ADE. To help begin this effort, the ADE will have the assistance of Ernest Hohmeyer, whose 6 part series on “Perspectives on the Adirondack Economy” in the ADE generated a great deal of interest both inside and outside of the Adirondacks. Ernest has been involved in the Adirondack Park economy for over 25 years and is a certified national and state community planner and business specialist. “I believe that everyone on all sides of the debate on the Adirondack economy will agree that doing business in the Park brings with it a unique set of circumstances” Hohmeyer stated. “ AdkBizToday will focus directly on business life in the Adirondacks with trends, business tips and comments that are designed to engage all those interested in the economy to share their ideas and insights” he continued. “There is a tremendous amount of business savvy, experience and knowledge that surrounds us and it is the hope of AdkBizToday to engage these resources in a healthy discussion on ways we can help each other through these challenging economic times. It is my hope to place ideas and comments out to the public that will generate other ideas and discussion – this will ultimately determine the success of AdkBizToday” Hohmeyer concluded.

AdkBizToday will begin with a 3-part focus: • Trends Affecting Today’s Businesses • The 5-minute a Day Business Plan • Comments on News Affecting the Adirondack Economy

Other items planned for the future will be Shop Talk: A Q&A feature with an area entrepreneur on if they had to do it all over again would they, what would they change if anything, thoughts on the future with perspectives and insights.

AdkBizToday will be a moving discussion whose content and direction will be in large part determined by reader interest. The success of AdkBizToday will be your involvement. We hope you will join us in helping each other move our economy forward in this unique and special place that we call home and our place of business.
