Zambonis in town!

March 17, 2010 - John Stack

This weekend, in Lake Placid is the Div III Men’s Hockey Championships. Plattsburgh state has again made the final four (after a stirring overtime win against Middlebury last weekend). Semifinals are 4 PM and 7:30 on Friday, and the final is at 5PM on Saturday. It is unfortunate that so few people attend. There are still great seats available and are about $25 for both days, or about $15 for just one day. I don’t know which game Plattsburgh is in.

The best thing about the whole two days is that The Zambonis are playing on Saturday! In the Municipal lot next to the arena, there will be a fan fest from 3-5 and also after the game. The greatest all hockey band in the world will be playing at both! (As well as singing the National Anthem I hear).

The Zambonis have been playing for nearly 20 years. They hail from Bridgeport Connecticut. They include founding members Dave Schneider and Jon Aley, plus recent draft picks Tom Tater and Mat O and Shawn Fogel. Plus, there is the world famous Hockey Monkey that travels with them. If you don’t know the Zambonis yet, check out their website, or call up Zambonis on YouTube (There are a handful of videos yours truly has posted from last year at the Olympic Arena). They will be playing Hockey Monkey (often!) as well as hits Breakaway, I wanna drive the Zamboni, Slapshot Man and Jonny Got Suspended, and my all time favorite ‘Lost my Teeth’ (which is not a reference to Tupper Lakers) that I will try to cajole Mat O to ‘sing’.

The Zambonis are one of the most fun and accessible bands you will ever encounter. They are very family friendly, and constantly interact with the fans. Even if you don’t go to the game, the Zambonis are worth the trip (and I’m not just saying that because the production team at Chevastack is creating a documentary on the group). Heck, as I will be there feel free to come over and discuss any recent blogs I have written (But I will have security there in the form of Big Cat and Fierce)
