Who's the hunkiest Olympian?
January 24, 2014 - Chris Knight
As if the twin-toilet photo wasn’t enough to get us laughing in the newsroom this week, we found another reason to smile Wednesday morning.
I got into the office around 6:50 a.m. and turned on my laptop. The first post that greeted me on Facebook was courtesy of the “Friends of Peter Frenette - USA Ski Jumper” page.
“Local Adirondack boy Tim Burke of Paul Smiths makes the Cosmo list of 14 Hot Guys to watch at the Olympics!” the post read.
Yep, that’s right. Cosmopolitan.com has come up with a list of the most attractive male U.S. Olympians.
I clicked the link. It takes me to a Cosmopolitan Web page with a great picture of Tim, in full biathlon uniform, holding up his skis and poles, with a big, friendly smile on his face.
“Can you believe the U.S. has never won a medal in the biathlon?” reads the caption below. “Well, hunky Tim Burke is our best chance in years to break that streak.”
Hunky? I just about died laughing. Not because Tim isn’t a handsome guy but just because, well, I’m sure this isn’t exactly the kind of press he was expecting in the lead-up to the games. We had a few laughs in the newsroom as we passed that link around.
Cosmo made no mention of this point, though: Tim Burke is taken. He’s been in a relationship with top German biathlete Andrea Henkel for about five years. Sorry, ladies!
Who else is on the list? Well, there’s alpine skiers Bode Miller and Ted Ligety, long-track speedskater Shani Davis and snowboarder Shaun White. Wuh, wuh what?? The Flying Tomato is one of the hottest guys to watch at the Olympics? Sorry, I just don’t get that.
I do have to say this, however, and let me preface it by saying I’m happily married (to a woman). How is it that Saranac Lake luger Chris Mazdzer is not on the list? There’s your hunk. Am I right, ladies?
