| | Owens joins bipartisan push for Keystone approvalFebruary 4, 2013 - Chris MorrisU.S. Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, and 150 of his congressional colleagues have sent President Barack Obama a letter urging him to expedite a review of a revised plan for the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline. "The project would transport Canadian oil to refineries in the Midwest and Southern United States," according to a press release issued by Owens' office. "The new plan is intended to address environmental concerns surrounding the project, while allowing the project to proceed." "The Keystone Pipeline stands to increase economic activity between the United States and Canada while supporting America's energy independence," Owens said in a prepared statement. "After four years of waiting, it's time for Washington to make a decision and hopefully proceed with the pipeline." I've posted a PDF version of the letter below.
Article Comments(2)wonderingFeb-05-13 11:23 AM It would be nice if it was true but tar sands oil will do nothing to aid USA energy independence. It will threaten aquifers and cause a rise in gas prices in the midwest. Since it is one of the dirtiest forms of energy it will also increase global warming (Oh I forgot that's just a hoax). None of that oil is destined for consumption in the US. AdkBuddyFeb-04-13 3:38 PM We need to pursue energy independence, not just for our economy, but because of our high moral ground. This country won't do business with Cuba partly due to their human rights violations, but has no problems doing billions upon billions of dollars of business with China and Saudi Arabia. In this case we should be telling the barbaric Saudis to drink their oil. Post a Comment | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
