Owens endorses Doheny

October 24, 2012 - Chris Morris
Bill Owens has endorsed Matt Doheny in the race for New York's new 21st Congressional District. Seriously.

Former Colorado Gov. Bill Owens, a Republican who served from 1999 to 2007, publicly endorsed Doheny, the Republican, Conservative and Independence party candidate who hopes to unseat U.S. Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, in the Nov. 6 election, today.

"Matt Doheny is committed to keeping taxes low, eliminating unnecessary regulation and improving our aging infrastructure – all pro-growth solutions I championed while governor of Colorado,” former Gov. Owens said in a prepared statement. "We need more people like Matt who have the business background and knowledge that can help guide Congress through our toughest issues. That's why I'm proud to support Matt – and I urge everyone in upstate New York to do the same this Election Day."

Doheny had praise for the former governor.

"Gov. Owens showed true leadership by finding bipartisan solutions to some of Colorado's biggest issues – and implemented them without breaking the bank," he said. "The people of Colorado rewarded his hard work by overwhelmingly electing him to a second term. I truly thank the former governor for his support of my campaign."
