| | Romney-Ryan reaxAugust 13, 2012 - Chris MorrisHere's a quick look at some of the reaction to Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate in the presidential election. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee: Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-19) has a new running mate: Congressman Paul Ryan’s Republican budget that ends Medicare. After Mitt Romney picked Republican Budget Chairman Paul Ryan today, Congressman Chris Gibson now has to defend his indefensible vote for the plan Ryan authored to give more tax breaks to millionaires, Big Oil and corporations that ship jobs overseas at the expense of Medicare for seniors. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office found the Ryan-Gibson plan would raise health care costs for seniors by $6,400 while the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found it would cut taxes for people making over $1 million a year by $394,000. “No matter how hard House Republicans like Congressman Chris Gibson may try to run and hide, he can no longer cover up his budget that would deeply cut Medicare so he can give tax breaks to millionaires, Big Oil, and companies shipping jobs overseas,” said Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “The Republican budget is now Congressman Gibson’s running mate as he must defend the indefensible – more tax cuts for millionaires and higher health care bills for seniors on Medicare. The American people have rejected Congressman Gibson’s support of Ryan’s plan time after time and will do it again this November.” Americans for Tax Fairness: A Romney-Ryan White House would be a dream for the richest 1 percent of Americans who are millionaires, but an economic nightmare for the vast majority of middle-class and lower-income Americans, according to Americans for Tax Fairness Action, a diverse coalition of over 140 national and state groups. “A Romney-Ryan White House would be Robin Hood in reverse, and that’s not the kind of America we want to live in,” said Frank Clemente, campaign manager for Americans for Tax Fairness Action. “Both of their budget plans would lavish the richest 1 percent of Americans who make over $1 million with yearly tax breaks of at least $250,000, while raising taxes on 95 percent of Americans who make less than $200,000. Politicians stacking the deck in favor of their wealthy campaign contributors and sticking the rest of us with the tab is not right.” Congressman Bob Turner, Republican representative from New York's 9th Congressional District, and former U.S. Senate candidate: "Paul Ryan has been a colleague and friend over the past year, and he will make an outstanding Vice President. He has been a leader in providing serious solutions to our country's problems, especially our debt crisis. We must prevent our country from falling over a fiscal cliff, and the Romney-Ryan team will give the nation a clear choice for the future." Tea Party Express: "We are delighted with Mitt Romney's choice of Congressman Paul Ryan as his Vice-Presidential running mate. The selection confirms Romney's strong commitment to the Tea Party economic issues that have caused the Tea Party movement to become such a major force in American politics. We have been polling our members for the last couple of months, and Paul Ryan, along with Senator Marco Rubio, have had the strongest support from Tea Party Express supporters across the country. Ryan is a strong fiscal conservative, and he has used his Chairmanship of the House Budget Committee to address the serious financial woes facing the country."
