Doheny backs Long

June 20, 2012 - Chris Morris
With just a few days left before the congressional primary, Watertown businessman Matt Doheny says he's backing Wendy Long for U.S. Senate.

"I am pleased to endorse Wendy Long for the United States Senate seat," he said in a press release this morning. "Her experience and strong knowledge of our Constitution, along with her commitment to conservative Republican principles, are exactly what the people of Upstate New York to end the heavy hand of government that is crushing our middle class families."

Doheny is running for New York's news 21st Congressional District. He said Long, a lawyer from New York City, has a resume that makes her a formidable candidate. Long is competing with Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos and U.S. Rep. Bob Turner for the Republican line in this fall's general election.

They're all trying to unseat Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand.

"I encourage all registered Republicans of 21st Congressional District to vote in the June 26th primary," Doheny said. "It is essential that Wendy Long is elected to be our Republican nominee and together we can advance the cause of smaller less intrusive government in Washington."

In thanking Doheny for his endorsement, Long sounded like a supporter of the former Wall Street financier: "Matt's story is the American dream, he proved that hard work leads to success and I look forward to working side by side in Washington to make sure that dream stays alive for all New Yorkers."
