Memorial Day

May 27, 2012 - Rick Burdt
Rather than write an article to stir things up, I decided to say thank you. To all those that have served and are currently serving, I say THANK YOU. To all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, THANK YOU. To all the families of veterans and to the families of those serving, THANK YOU.

Because of you, I live in a nation where the guns on our borders are pointed out, not in. Because of you, I live in a nation where I can write this column without fear of repercussions. Because of you, I live in a nation where I can determine my own fate.

It’s more than just signing on a dotted line, you raise your right hand and swear an oath offering your life for your country. Most of you are young and don’t fully understand the impact of what you are doing, but pridefully do it anyways, and we are so lucky to have you.

So, to all of you I’ve mentioned above, no matter what race, color, creed, political party, sexual preference, or any other diversifier, to me you are a veteran and an American hero first. I proudly salute you and fly my flag in your honor with a hand on my heart and pride in my soul.
