Offers to buy Oak Mountain

March 30, 2012 - Jessica Collier
Sorry I haven't posted in the last few days, despite things going on. I had bronchitis and was laid up on my couch for a few days. I'm back in business now though. If you hear me coughing, don't worry, I'm not contagious anymore.

The Hamilton County Express has a story today on offers to buy the Oak Mountain Ski Center in Speculator.

I believe I've blogged about it before. It was a village-run ski center, and the Hamilton County IDA took it over in a foreclosure auction in 2009.

They got three offers: one from a company that doesn't want to buy the ski area but only wants its communication tower, one from a company that wants to lease the property out to someone else who will run the ski area and one from the people who ran the ski area from 2010-11, and who want to continue to run it. No one is offering much more than the IDA paid for the property at auction.

In light of all the arguments that building the resort is the only way to make Big Tupper survive, I think it's interesting to compare with what's going on with other ski slopes in the area, especially the ones that are at a crossroads like this one.
