ACR in the news (nationally!)

January 16, 2012 - Jessica Collier
The Associated Press picked up the story about the APA making a decision on the ACR this week, and it's been at least on a lot of different news websites nationally.

It ran on websites for the Wall Street Journal, the New Jersey Herald, the Seattle Post Intelligencer and the Newsday, plus a few others I saw.

Also, did you see the headline on WCAX's story? I'm probably way off base, but I'd like to think they got the idea for that from the title of this blog. :)

I'm pasting the text of the AP story that came in over the wire below, but I guess there was also an extended version you can see at the Albany Times Union website.

The AP story:

Agency to vote on proposed Adirondack resort

MICHAEL VIRTANEN Associated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The Adirondack Park Agency plans to vote this week on whether to approve a proposed 6,200-acre, year-round resort and residential development in Tupper Lake.

The agency, a sort of zoning board for the park, will consider the Adirondack Club and Resort project at its monthly meeting scheduled to start Wednesday. A vote is set for Friday.

The project is the largest ever reviewed by the APA. It would rebuild the Big Tupper ski area, build a new marina on Big Tupper Lake, and develop a 6,200-acre parcel.

Local officials who see a boost for the area's economy support the project. But residents and environmentalists expressed concerns in the six-year application process about erosion control, wastewater treatment and potential damage the forest and wildlife. Their concerns prompted modifications to the plan.
