Peter H. Sullivan
Peter H. Sullivan, 80, of Fletcher Farm Road, Vermontville, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017.
Born in Saranac Lake on Sept. 5, 1936, he was the son of William Philip B. and Winifred H. (Howard) Sullivan. Peter married Agatha Oehler on Aug. 20, 1966, at St. John’s Church in Lake Clear.
Peter was a lifelong resident of the area and had been employed at the Adirondack Correctional Facility as a plumber and steamfitter for 23 years until his retirement in 1989. He previously worked as a union pipefitter and in his family’s plumbing and gas business. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1956 to 1959 and as a USN Seabee from 1969 to 1971. Peter was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Saranac Lake Veterans Memorial Association and past member of the Saranac Lake Elks BPOE 1508. He coached little league baseball, was a volunteer for the Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association and was involved with the construction of the Saranac Lake Civic Center. Peter also served on the Saranac Lake High School Hall of Fame Committee and volunteered at St. Bernard’s School. He was an avid Saranac Lake sports fan and especially enjoyed watching and supporting his grandchildren play.
He is survived by his wife Agatha of Vermontville; one son, Thomas Sullivan of Vermontville; two grandchildren, Bridgit and Bryan Sullivan, both of Vermontville; two sisters, Elizabeth Pelletieri of Saranac Lake and Ann Loftis of Branford, Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; mother; three sisters: Claire Sullivan, Winifred Yorkey and Margaret Campion; and three brothers: Robert, John and Philip “Hoot” Sullivan
Calling hours will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Jan. 10 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with the Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear in the sping.
