MINERVA — The former clerk to the Minerva town supervisor has been charged with stealing more than $11,000 in public funds over a two-year period.

State police based in Lewis arrested Jordan P. Green, 26, of Minerva, on Wednesday following an investigation by the Office of the State Comptroller regarding town business records.

The investigation and audit determined that Green, during the course of her official duties, funneled almost $9,000 to her personal account from the town’s payroll account, according to a press release from state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office. The comptroller’s staff also alleged that Green, who is a member of the state’s retirement system, used town funds to pay back more than $1,500 worth of loans she took from the retirement system. They said Green also directed more than $1,000 in town funds to pay medical contributions instead of making deductions from her paycheck.

Green resigned in April 2015, a month after an investigation by the comptroller’s office was launched. she had been a town employee since July 2010.

“Ms. Green used her control over the town’s accounts to allegedly give herself a raise and have taxpayers pay back a loan,” DiNapoli said in the release. “Thanks to our investigators and auditors, her fraud was exposed. I thank Essex County District Attorney Kristy Sprague and the New York State Police for their work and partnership in combatting public corruption.”

Green is charged with one count of grand larceny in the third degree (a class D felony), two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree (a class E felony) and three counts of defrauding the government (a class E felony).

She was arraigned in Schroon town court in front of town Justice William Tribou and scheduled to return to the town of Minerva court on Nov. 30.
